Been lurking for a little while, thought it was about time to introduce ourselves. We maintain a small herd of Dexter cattle in Bedford County Virginia. That is located between Roanoke & Lynchburg just north of Smith Mountain Lake. We currently have 5 cows, 1 bull, 3 yearling heifers, 1 yearling steer and 2 heifer calves on the ground now. All of our cows are horned. We will be showing at the Central Virginia Livestock Show in May in the heifer showmanship class for 4H, they did approve us showing even though the show committee had never heard of the breed. Plan is to calve out this year keep all the heifers and replace our bull this fall thereby doubling our herd and only bringing in 1 new animal.

I hope you will consider showing at the VA State Fair- there is a Dexter division and the Fair really appreciates the breed.

Thanks for the welcome. We have had our Dexters for about 3 years now and have gotten rid of all of our other cows except for our Jersey milk cow....We are hoping to get a jersey/dexter cross heifer out of her eventually but so far nothing but bull calves but she is due within the next 60 days so keeping our fingers crossed....We also raise pigs, chickens, muscovey ducks and all the garden we can stand....
