I won't tell Armstrong that his mom's udder is up on a public board for all to see. Might embarrass him. I'll try to get a good picture of April's udder. She's lovely.

Hey Gene, thanks for starting this. As a newbie to milking cows, need to see all the udders I can. Edited to say, I do not have a milk cow yet, I am still on the hunt. that is why the pics are so good!

This is Matnat Madaline. She is a first time freshener and I have been milking her for 4 months. Produces 1/2 gallon a day for us and feeds her calf. She's a keeper! When she is very full her back teats are slightly longer than the front, other wise she is nicely proportioned. I will be interested to see how her bag ages.

This is Bietschehof Ellie Mae's full udder after separating the calf overnight. She is 12, and a traditional dual purpose dexter. I've only owned her since April, so I can't give a lot of history regarding the number of calves she's had or if she'd been milked before I got her (other than occasionally in this last lactation). I also can't report on how easily she keeps condition over winter, but she seemed to be in good condition from last winter when I purchased her. I share milk once a day with her calf that is now almost 8 months old and very well fed. I only get 1 1/2 quarts ( I have bad wrists and limited endurance, and she holds up very nicely for her calf). I estimate I should at least get another pint if I could milk longer, still leaving plenty for the calf to have immediately after I'm done. If I ever get my milking machine going, I'll have to report back on her production, including after I wean the calf. Her front teats are long enough and spaced comfortably for me to easily milk both at the same time. The back teats are a bit shorter so I can only get 4 of my 5 fingers around to start, and after her bag empties a bit I can get a snuggly fitting 5. (I have fairly large hands for a woman.) They're a bit closer spaced so I usually milk diagonally with a front teat if I want to milk two at a time. Attachments:

This is C R Lady Jade, age 11. Her udder attachment is not the best, I'd like to see it go a little farther up her belly, but, there is no sag or lowering in the muscle . I've never milked her except to relieve some pressure when her new babies can't take it all. She's a wonderfull cow, easy natured and good momma.

Sorry about the hard-to-see picture. This was my foundation cow calving at seven years old. She had been a range cow before I got her and never milked, but her udder was fine even though there was always way too much milk for one calf. She had even teats with great spacing..marion Attachments:

Marion, Love your cows udders. That 7 year old cow that just calved has a excellent looking udder. Especially when you think that is what her udder would look at it's worst!

Thanks RDoubleD. I sold her at 12 yrs old and been kicking myself ever since. Her udder had not changed..marion
Modified to add: When I was showing goats back when... it was required that those in milk be shown fully 'bagged', because it is hard to properly evaluate an udder that is not full.
