Our daughter, Claire Adams, plays bass guitar in a blues trio called Katy Guillen & The Girls. They competed and won the preliminaries and then the final round in the Kansas City Blues Society competition in September 2013 and they will be representing Kansas City at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in January 2014. They are in the process of raising funds to help defray the expenses of their trip to this important international competition. Here is a link to a short video about them: We would appreciate any help from the Dexter cattle community to assist these three very talented, young women in their endeavors. If you live near Memphis, TN and want to attend the International Blues Challenge in January 2014, here is information on the event: blues.org/ibc/#ref=ibc_indexAs well as being a wonderful musician and singer/song writer, Claire loves Dexter cattle and helping out at Wakarusa Ridge Ranch. Many thanks, Patti

Just a quick update. Katy Guillen & The Girls made it to the finals at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. They were one of the top nine bands (out of more than 125 bands that participated) and they got to perform at the famous Orpheum Theatre in Memphis - which was just amazing. Here is one of their latest contributions, promoting a local Kansas City PBS radio station, 90.9 FM: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsVhayZsVtADexter cattle and good music, what more could anyone wish for!!! The Royals won Game 6, and Katy Guillen & The Girls were invited back to play tonight before Game 7! Every time they have played at Gate E before the game, the Royals have won the game. They played before the wildcard game during the playoffs and the Royals won and were in the World Series. The band got to stay and watch Game 6 of the World Series, it was so awesome! Tonight, they play again and get to see Game 7. Got their Mojo working, go KG&G, go Royals!!!

Katy Guillen & The Girls leave tomorrow morning to begin a 10-day international tour in Sweden. Believe it or not, it's warmer in Sweden right now than it is in Kansas! We are getting the worst of the polar vortex this week and our temperatures dropped to the 20's (oF) last night. Tonight it will go down to 15 oF, and the wind chill makes it feel even colder. Sweden will feel very comfortable, compared to Kansas this week. Such a great opportunity for KG&G to share their music with the world. Here's a link to their FaceBook page: www.facebook.com/kgandthegirlsWe should get a few updates with photos on their FaceBook, while they are in Sweden. Patti

Patti, if they are going to be in Stockholm, and have some spare time, they may enjoy the Skansen open air museum. If I remember correctly they even had a couple of Dexters there! It is a combination of a zoo and museum of Swedish history. Not sure in late fall how much of it is open, but we really enjoyed our day strolling around and seeing the various exhibits. You can even go into the cages with some of the animals like the lemurs. Though this time of year the daylight hours are VERY short! Our last visit was a few years ago in late June, and it was daylight from 2am to 11:30pm The weather there is much warmer than you would expect for such a high latitude, due to the ocean currents and lack of any large land mass to really cool things down.
A bit of time in "Old Town" and a trip to the Vasa Museum are also high on the list in Stockholm.
