Hello! I have searched this board for information so often that I've started to recognize the regular folks, so I figured I should probably just join.
My name is Diana, my husband is Mark, and we have 6 kids (his, mine, and ours) and a little farm (10 acres) including horses, chickens, ducks, dogs, probably some others I'm forgetting, and of course, Dexters. Our teeny herd is Violet, there in my avatar, her calf Kobe, and Nolan--yearling shortie bull by Shamrock Mike (hi, Hans!!). We are total newbies, just learning and learning. AND OBSESSED. I just started milking about a month ago--my hands are killing me, lol--but I already can't wait to add to the little herd. We just moved here two years ago and are already thinking...hmm....we should have looked for a bigger lot...
Off to do the morning chores...Violet is probably staring at the back door, Diana

Hi from Northern WIs! I know the feeling of catching Dexter fever:) also, I can relate to not having enough pasture, more pasture = more Dexters:)

Hi Diana! Glad to have you join up. I did the same thing, though I still kind of lurk in the shadows. Glad that you got started with some nice dexters! My parents and I are the Shamrock Herd over in West Michigan and we have been breeding dexters since 1987. Its so fun to see all the cows and progeny of our cattle across the county! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Diana! Happy 10 year anniversary to you and Mark! Mark better watch out (or not), since for the past 5 or 6 years Sheril has asked for (and usually received) a Dexter for Christmas, her birthday, our anniversary, Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Canada Day (since we're so close to the border), and it seems any other "day" that happens to fall on the calendar In fact, Nolan's dam Noelle was one of her Christmas presents, as the name suggests. I guess it beats jewelry...and is much easier to shop for! Welcome! Hans

Exactly! Our neighbors have 25 acres...unused...empty meadow. We can see it from our back windows and it always looks so inviting. Maybe some day I will just knock and their door and say Excuse me, would you mind if I parked a bunch of cows here?
emsshamrock, nice to meet you! Our Dexters are family:) We just looooove our little bull, I'm sure I will be writing more about him.
dexterlady, I am hooked, can't even deny it. I saw an old family friend recently and started showing her pictures of Violet in my phone. She says, Diana, can you show me any pictures of YOUR CHILDREN? Oops...(cut to me flipping thru my phone...flip, flip, flip, frown...)
LOL, Hans! I am not telling Mark ANY of that! In May we have our anniversary, Mother's Day, and my birthday. Usually I just buy myself a combo present, something I've been wanting like a new bridle--I think it was hoof tools last year, ha. I was so excited!-- and then let him know what he got me and say thank you...it works out great for both of us. This year it's milking and cheese making supplies. Maybe the 11th is the Bovine Anniversary?? (I'm sure it is according to Sheril!). Waaaay better than jewellery.
Thanks yall:) Diana

An increase in the production of milk and dairy products for the urban population stimulated work to increase the productivity of cows and improve their breeding qualities. This required an improvement in the conditions of feeding and keeping animals, the introduction of grass planting, and the organization of breeding. On the basis of this, a highly productive Yaroslavl breed of dairy cattle was created in the Yaroslavl province, and Kholmogorskaya in the Arkhangelsk province.
