We have a new little fellow here. Cute as can be and a ball of energy. We chose Armstrong for the sire after learning about him here on this forum, and are very pleased with the results. Kate is a short "shortie" (chondro pos.) and we wanted a small calf for an easy delivery for her. I call her short (around 36") because I can't call her small. As you can see she is anything but small. She delivered with less than 10 min. of pushing time. After 4 min the calf was trying to get up and was standing right away. He was happily nursing away before he was 30 min old. He was around 30 lbs at birth and is already growing away. Must be all that good Dexter milk his mama has. I do love seeing that milk ring around their faces at this age. LOL We are so pleased. Armstrong proved to be a great choice for us. Knobley Wallace PHA free A2/A2 Horned Chondro ? to be tested Dam: LHR KateII Sire: Armstrong of Paradise (AI)

I'd guess non-chondro based on how tall he looks next to mama. Cute. And you are right, that's one big mama.

I see why you call her short instead of small! . Congratulations on an easy calving and a cute lively guy.

Congratulations Carrie! I'd guess non-chondro as well. Kate sure is a nice cow, I'm envious, and you probably hardly feed her either. I'd let that little (quickly to become big) boy drink all the milk he wants as long as he wants, and she should share with you too. She has plenty of reserves..lol

I'm with Hans, I've got some cow envy over Kate, she must be an easy keeper! Wallace looks nice

Thanks for all the nice compliments on Wallace and his mama Kate. We are so thrilled with both of them. Just what we were hoping for when we first found Dexters.
And you guys are right. She is such an easy keeper. After coming through a really tough winter, she looks this good on just hay and mineral. We had to cut way back on the "treats" because she was getting too fat. LOL And her son from last year Frank (sire Legacy Jams Dunder) another shortie is built just like her.

Lovely cow and calf! I love seeing Armstrong babies, but I suppose I'm a bit biased since he's our herd sire. He is such an easy bull to be around and his calves tame down nicely for us. We're very glad to hear that you are happy with your calf.

Thanks everyone! Wallace is sold and is going to MD to help begin a brand new Dexter herd. The new owners just fell in love with him as soon as they met him and with the rest of our little herd too. With 5 lovely ladies soon to be joining him, he should be quite happy in his new home.
