Ok guys let's play. I thought I would put a photo of one of our bulls up for everyone to have guess as to whether he is a chondro carrier or not. His status is known, but I would like to hear what people think.
so, who is game to give it a go, have fun

I would say non chondro. I will go further and guess his sire as hedgehog.

Looks chondro to me, the short canon bone is the main reason. P.J.

I'm in agreement with Dexterfarm, I'd say non-chondro with Hedgehog III either quite close or on both sides of the pedigree. He certainly has the look with all the curls. It is usually easier to tell with a side on shot and with some item of reference with size since the photo was taken from the side front, so the head appears larger than it otherwise would and his rump looks smaller than it likely is. Nice looking boy!

I love his curls too. Has anyone followed writings of Gearld Fry? In one of his writings he goes through the hair on bulls and what to select for in a bull for high fertility. He says that bulls with the tight curls have high fertility, and in bulls with lesser curls or straight hair their fertility lowers. I guess curls must be a result of testosterone levels. He is a masculine bull, when he was classified, from memory he scored 8 when the highest they can score is a 9.

"He certainly has the look with all the curls."
So Hans are you thinking that Woodmagic bred bulls have the curls? I thought that curls were in all lines, just that some bulls have them and some bulls don't, and it goes along with a large crest, and large testicles. These characteristics were a sign of their testosterone levels. I have a share in a bull that is probably about 3/4 Woodmagic and he has straight hair, not a curl in sight, also almost no crest and not very masculine looking at all, almost steer like Thanks for the compliment about him, we love him, he brings the size down in his calves. He is about 44 inches at 9 years of age.

Is it just me and my laptop or is there something going on with Proboards? It won't let me like anyone's posts and the "quote" button won't work.

In the side pic he looks even more like our first bull Sam.
