Ouch, I stuck my head where I shouldn't have.
That had to have hurt, lucky he's a steer, not much room left to put a new tag in or to tattoo.

For the moment I thought he might have Woodmagic Petrel in him Just happens to be in the same side and almost looks just like hers. Sorry I just couldn't resist the comment. How long did he take to heal up? Barb

Hahaha, no Petrel but does have Palmchat! he is still healing Barb, this is after one week. I did consider stitching the skin over the exposed cartilage when he first did it, to help it heal quicker, but it is doing ok, it is all scabbed up now. So what happened to yours Holly? This calf stuck his head through the fence and got his tag caught on the wire.

We have one in our herd too. She stuck her head in the chicken coop door and managed to hook her tag and ripped it out. It healed up fine though and doesn't seem to bother her.

Looks like just about everyone has one. They just can't help themselves sticking their heads where they shouldn't Fran, I can imagine that gave the chickens something to flap about.

I don't know what happened to Minnie Belle, I bought her this way and it was already healed. I do not use tags on my cows I HATE them. I have a small enough herd that so far I have not needed to use them. I am sure that will change some day though.

I come home sometimes and catch them in the chicken coop. It's a 12x24 set-up on one end of the cow barn. Don't know what makes it so interesting other than the fact that they're not supposed to be in there. They knock down the nesting boxes and step on water buckets, etc. They just like to get into trouble...

Fran, my cows will get into any one of my chicken pens ,if they can....I had just filled up one of my feeders with chicken scratch and my cow , Ciera , and her heifer, got into it and Ciera ate all the scratch feed...So that is why your cows find your chicken pen so interesting!....They love chicken scratch.....I have learned to keep all the doors closed....Donna
