Hello,
I am new to the website and fairly new to Dexters. We started 4 years ago with 3 cows and a bull. We are now at a herd of 18 with 3 babies due any day now. There is so much information on this site and soooooo many brains to pick! We are located in Lancaster, SC . It is just this old lady and my husband at home now so I guess these are my replacement children. There is nothing better after a long shift at the hospital than coming home to the girls! I have hand milked a couple and would like to start milking more but we need to build a stanchion. Mostly they are my buddies.

Welcome guam1954, is that your birth year or the year you were in guam? LOL. If your birthdate, you will find quite a few of us here with similar ages, lots of "old ladies" here (speaking for myself)
Dexters are ideal for older people with their smaller size and lovely temperaments. You don't get trashed like you do with big breeds. Sounds like you're developing quite a herd there, their numbers increase so easily. I know exactly what you mean after a long shift "at the hospital", Me too, nothing better than to come home and veg out, hanging out with the cows.
You will find people on here so knowledgeable, there are some on here who have had Dexters for just about "forever" and willing to share their knowledge. Have fun!

Welcome, welcome!! You are located not too far from us - we're in Woodruff, SC. We started 4 years ago with a bred heifer and bull calf; we now have 10 with 2 due in Oct/Nov. I haven't milked any of mine yet but plan to when I retire in a few years. And I agree with you and everyone else, there's nothing better than coming home and hanging out with my moos!!!
