I love that you were able to get her back after you sold her, hoperefuge! I can't remember if you had her when you had Sara; just curious how the Boss Cow situation might have worked out there.

Yes, Sara was here as Boss when Bo was born & a youngster. Let's see if I remember how this went.... When you bought Sara, her daughter Keira took over as Boss. When I eventually sold Keira, then Bo became Boss. When I bought Sara back, I was very curious what would happen! I put Sara in the corral at the barn, so she could have fenceline contact with the others, including Bo. Most of the rest of my herd at that point didn't know Sara. The two of them sniffed noses through the fence, and Bo immediately backed up a couple steps. I was pretty sure she recognized Sara, and was backing off in submission. Later on when I turned Sara out, BoPeep stayed out of her way & just showed complete submission to her as Boss again. By the time I bought Bo back after selling her, Sara was gone again, and Bo was back on the throne. And after writing all that, I definitely think I need to stop selling cows & buying them back!! LOL Kim

No, don't, hoperefuge, it keeps things interesting! Very few people can report on the dynamics from experience the way you can!

Has anyone made a cross with a zebu? Any pictures maybe especially of Dexter/zebu cross cow? What about a corrientie? I would think that a few guys down in Texas have tried a few of these for heat and insect tolerance. Just thinking Brand new to this forum. We acquired a rescue heard of 6 dexter cows with a zebu bull. The off spring are very much dexter, but the steers are longer legged and a bit lanky. We processed the steers at about 18 months this past August. Fabulous meat. The butcher we brought them to said it was the best beef he has ever seen. The zebu bull is just a wonderful animal. Very gentle and very protective (in a good way) of younger ones. The zebus are a really cool looking animal. Will post pics tomorrow.
