. . . and what to look for when buying one. I could have put this in the Auction Barn, but I'm posting it as an educational tool, and I think it will serve more purpose here. This post is probably the best example of marketing a bull that I have ever seen. I think anyone trying to sell their bull could take pointers from this. In fact, even though we're not selling our bull, I intend to take pointers myself about things to observe and record. The fact that they have owned the bull for five years and have some of his daughters who have actually freshened enables them to share some fantastic information about him. The photos comparing the dams' udders with the daughters (his) udders are a super touch. Many people use the phrase "proven bull." This is what a proven bull looks like.

It's really, really terrific.
But since Dexters are supposed to be a compact breed, I'd also want to see something about the height of marketed bulls, and heights of offspring too. Preferably their age-3 heights if available. But even age-2 heights are very useful.

I agree, Kirk, along with birth weights of calves. I think it was mentioned, and she added that to her post or in a link.
I do think the ADCA needs to clarify exactly which height we are using--shoulders or hips--at which age! I was looking for it recently, and it's very hard to find, and there is contradicting information on the website. I should have copied it at the time I found it, but I didn't. But it should be a lot easier to find than it is!

Yep... when you are selling something that good all you gotta do is list the info... So while Kim did some work (OK, a lot of work) her So-man wears it so well!

Hi, I found this article and just had to say, Rousseau is the sire of my herd bull Helios, and Rousseau has past down some great treats to Helios. Helios's temperament is wonderful he is so sweet. Helios is a two time grand champion and this year as a 3 year old he walked on a lead in our towns Mayday parade with people, fire trucks, police, sirens and all the surprises that happen in a parade and not a hiccup out of Helios, the folks watching the parade were amazed by this bull and how calm he was. I was lucky enough to get Helios to be our herd sire. I am offering one of Helios's bull calves from this year May,2015 for sale at this time. We are going to be butchering last years bull calf in November, I hate too butcher Fritz he is so sweet such a nice boy, but we can't keep them all.
