We have a 4 year old Red Irish Dexter bull for sale. He is registered. Extremely easy to handle. He does not test fences, threaten humans or make a nuisance of himself. Throws approx. 40 lb birth weight calves. We love having him but he has sired too many daughters in our herd and we need fresh stock. A good home is really important to us as he is a great bull. Asking $1500. Will consider delivering him to nearby states or meet halfway.

Ummm, sweetgrass, you might have more success if you were to name the animal and give its registration number (and which assn) so people could look behind it at the pedigree, and a better photo, side on (so we can see the muscle mass, body length, cleanness of brisket, head size in relation to the body, and tail and pin set), and from the back showing the testicles (that gives us an idea of size, shape, hang, and suspensory ligament). Some pics of daughters would be helpful. Just saying he's fertile isn't enough, sometimes. Cheers, c.

Thank you for your advice. We're brand new to Dexters and cattle in general. We dearly love this bull but it seems like it is time for him to move on. I will revise the ad! Thanks

Gosh, if he didn't have horns I'd be there tomorrow. Agree with the comments about more info. Best wishes Corinne Logan

Here's a link to a recent post that someone did to market their bull. If you're new to Dexters you probably don't have the years of knowledge and photos of his offspring that this lady did, but it gives you an idea of some of the information to include. This bull sold relatively quickly for full asking price.

Thank you! Yes, we're totally new to Dexters but we've fallen in love with them. They are so gentle and easy-going compared to the Angus that everyone else raises in our area. I'm going to get organized with our bull's papers and registration, have him tested by our vet and take pictures of his offspring. I'm not sure how great their conformation is. Is there a resource for judging that? I do know that our bull is short-legged and so are his babies.

Here's a resource for judging beef cattle conformation. Others have been shared on here before, so someone else probably has links to other resources that they can share. Here's one for dairy cattle conformation, which will be especially helpful on udders. You might want to start a new thread in the General section about judging conformation so people will see it. If they aren't shopping, they may not come to the Auction Barn. For evaluating your chondro-carriers, if you start a new thread on conformation, I can tag some members who might be able to help you with photos and point-by-point evaluations of some of their animals. Looking at photos and having people point out the good qualities in the animal has been one of the most helpful things for me to learn about good conformation.

jerry0140, let me tag sweetgrass. Sometimes people don't sign in, but if they do, that's a good way to catch their eye in case they forget to check on a post.

jerry, especially for newer people with only a few animals, sometimes they only come on the board occasionally, maybe because it's not the first thing out of the gate in the morning for them, like it is for some of us anal types (smile). Maybe you can find him by matching his email address to the member list in the assn? He still hasn't given us a link to the bull. cheers, c.

jerry0140, click on Sweetgrass's member name, and it will take you to her profile. (She is a she.) She was last online (logged on) on March 12, so she could have seen this, but maybe did not realize she'd been tagged. It took me awhile to notice the little marker up on my profile. There is a town named on her profile, which I won't list here in public. That town is near Durango, and there are two ADCA members in Durango. Here's the current membership list. Of course, there's no guarantee Sweetgrass is an ADCA member. That's the best I can offer to give you a starting point.
