And we're loving it! (Sorry to all of you who are sick of it, but down here a real snow is rare and wonderful!) Our winter wonderland. I'll add this morning's photos at the end.

Pretty pictures Susan. We really don't mind the snow up here at all though, it beats the mud. I know how to complete your experience and make sure the snow "sticks around until morning" , I think you need a day of some of our temperatures up here of late. We had a morning here of -34 a week ago. Not wind chill, actual temperature. :-) I'd take some photos to post but the risk of frostbite on my fingers is too great for the 30 seconds it takes to fumble with the camera...lol The cows have been doing OK, just burning through a LOT of hay. www.mlive.com/weather/index.ssf/2015/02/great_lakes_ice_cover_may_set.html

Plenty for a snowman, legendrockranch, we got six inches! It was 29° this morning as the sun was coming up, so it won't last long, I daresay. But thankfully, even though it was a very wet snow, our power is still on. Usually something like this brings a tree down on a power line, which makes it a lot less enjoyable! I'll have to post photos from this morning later on after I milk. It was stu-pen-dous! lakeportfarms, I really feel for you guys. I would not be enjoying this if I were in your shoes cleat-equipped snow boots. I felt a bit guilty even posting this because I know so many of you are weary of snow, but it really is an event down here. I truly can't even comprehend temperatures like you get!

I agree with Hans! Snow is better than mud! Glad you are enjoying it Susan, I know some communities are not enjoying it near as much. Over in Pikeville, KY where my Matt is currently, they had over a foot of snow and they shut down the town for a week. Conditions were so hazardous because of the mountains.... then to boot the city/counties water pump went out because of all the ice and mud. They are still recovering from that....glad I'm home where I can enjoy my cattle! 29F is like sweatshirt weather after what we have had, right lakeportfarms?

emsshamrock, I really feel for the people that are having a terrible time. I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy this at all if we had lost our power; it's a lot more beautiful when the house is warm and lighted and there's internet service! And after I carted Siobhan's special "milking hay" along with my bucket of supplies (because the teat dip freezes if I leave it in the milking parlor) into the barn, I actually did milk in shirtsleeves, albeit a fleece shirt. I get all hot and bothered in my winter coat, and with the temps right at 32°, it's much more comfortable without it.

I walked out of our bedroom this morning--and RAN for my camera! (Sorry for the huge photos, but that's the only Tinypic link that works for me.) For those of you that aren't sick of snow, here are the rest of the photos.

That's a really pretty sunrise Susan. The other nice thing about those late winter (for you all down there) snows is that it really give the grass a nice kick start to growing. I'd guess it was probably already starting to show some green growth there.
Emily and I, and others up North will be wearing our steel toed boots for a while, so as not to break toes if we accidentally kick some frozen hard as a rock manure piles. Since the snow is so deep up here, they'll congregate in a fairly small area where it's been plowed for them or packed down, and it really builds up with a larger size herd. It's going to be a mess when it melts and the ground thaws.

The grass was greening up a bit in a few spots, Hans. Hopefully this will melt slowly and all soak in! I know spring brings its own challenges for you all with mud season. Good luck--summer will be here before you know it, and you'll be happy while I'm miserable!

Susan, I'm laughing hysterically at myself right now. Asking you the question if you had enough snow. Sorry I didn't realize you had put a link up to your pictures called "winter wonderland". I'm part color blind. I have some really funny stories regarding my condition. Beautiful pictures.

Love the pictures, Susan -- especially the red birdhouse!! You take some awesome photos! It's lovely when it comes down like that, before anyone has walked on it, etc., and especially BEFORE it turns to mud... Looks so peaceful. We got a nice coating of sleet with a tiny bit of snow mixed in.
