I was browsing old issues of the ADCA Bulletin and found this interesting tidbit. The summer 1976 issue (http://www.dextercattle.org/bulletin_archive/bulletins_1971_1980/1976%20June%20ADCA%20Dexter%20Bulletin.pdf) mentioned that breeder Chester Malach had died and that he had supplied Dexter bulls for many years to the University of Buffalo to serve as their mascot at football games. I did a little digging and found this 1958 photo of Malach and "Buster" at the University of Buffalo-Harvard football game. According to Wikipedia, the school's first live mascot was an Angus/Dexter cross donated by Mike Todd and Elizabeth Taylor. That bull became too "ornery" and was apparently replaced by a succession of more mild mannered full blood Dexters from Malach. Malach knew what he was doing. He is listed as the breeder of Jamie O'Callen, a very influential Dexter bull. There is a lot of really interesting stuff tucked away in this old Bulletins. Dave

Thanks for posting this Dave. You're right, there are lots of very interesting and surprising bits of information on the Dexter breed; and Dexter owners and breeders through the years, tucked away in those old ADCA Bulletins!
See what you can find on Hannah Lee Stokes, the glamorous "Chesterfield girl", and Dexter owner/breeder. Her herd prefix was "Lee's Hill".

Yes the Buffalo Bulls are named after that Dexter as far as I am aware, I've seen the pics before and some of the pics of the mascot Victor E Bull? have those white horns with black tips on them based on the real bull that Chester took to UB.
