I am happy to announce that we now have straws available from this very nice little bull. Milkman is 41" tall at the hip, red with homozygous dun, hetero polled and A2/A2. This photo is from this fall, around 2 1/2 years old. We are offering an "Introductory Special" price for 2016 only, so don't miss out! More info, pictures, and pricing details can be found on our website. hoperefugefarm.com/breeding-program/herdsires-past/mrald-perfect-lil-milkmanKim

Aaww, thank you cddexter! It's nice to know an "old pro" thinks highly of him. He sure was an awfully nice boy to have around! Kim

Did you sell him, hoperefuge? You've kept several of his daughters haven't you?

Ah zephyrhillsusan, you had to ask. Some people will probably not understand the answer. Yes, we sold him...locally...by the pound. It was strictly a business decision, made with input from Stefani of Emerald Park Farm (his breeder), who partnered with us in the collection. I do have several heifers by him that were born last year, and we're expecting several more calves this year. I plan to raise the girls, breed them, and train them to milk, so that I eventually have some milk production numbers for him. Kim

Yes, we sold him...locally...by the pound. Kim OK so as I was reading this I was taken back for a minute and than (sorry to say) had a little chuckle. Not about the loss of Milkman but with how Kim worded it. Sorry for your loss Kim, sometimes things just have to be done. No matter what it doesn’t make it any easier. Barb

Thank you, Barb. (and it's OK to chuckle) I just didn't really want to get into that aspect too much here. It WAS a very hard decision to make. But with as flooded as the Dexter market is with "bulls" , sometimes this is just the most practical thing to do. So, it's just AI babies from now on. Kim

Where's that tongue in cheek emoticon when you need it: Kim, you now have it both ways: you get to have your bull and eat him too. cheers, c.

Can someone clarify for me what the implications are that the bull is red and homozygous dun. In what ways might that dun be expressed? Thanks.

tonhou Milkman is red, as the dun cannot express in the hair coat without a black gene (ED). The dun CAN express in skin & eye color however, so his nose is the brown color of a dun animal and his eyes are the pale amber color. He will always pass both a red & dun gene to all his calves, so there's a better chance of getting colored calves out of him. Kim

Thanks Kim for a nice concise explanation of that.
