I agree it is hard selling the little ones they are so sweet. I have a hard time selling any of our animals, I try to place them in good homes as best as I can. I know I can’t keep them all though.

Mr. Bull leaves tomorrow for collection of some straws. Not very many; just enough for us. After this mess with the calf, I am not going to miss him. He is a respectful bull and pretty easy going. He would be good in a bigger herd.

I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t be happy with him either after losing your heifer calf. It would be nice not to keep a bull year round, I am beginning to think with a smaller herd AI might be the way to go. Although it’s nice to put the bull in with them and not have to worry about it.

I loved watching our last bull interact with the herd. He was so gentle with the babies and when he was separate from the herd, it was as if something was missing. I think his personality was one of a kind. He went off to a much bigger herd in another state. I'm glad I have straws from him, though.
This bull is too young to see that behavior. He's also too young to be proven, but he has some excellent traits that are probably worth passing on.

Hi Alicia: sorry to hear your problems. Never easy. Thoughts are with you. And, boy do I ever second all those yuck to facebook comments. No thought any more, just instant answers without effort, even if the answers are from people just as ignorant as the ones asking. And impossible to find anything even if you know where to look. I don't do facebook either. TV started the 10-second soundbite, maybe we could go back to reading and talking instead? HA. hugs, c.

I really miss people posting on this forum, and I agree Facebook sure has taken over. There is so much information on this site that Facebookers are missing out on. I have a beautiful heifer for sale and she is currently being halter trained I just put her up for sale a couple of days ago so we will see what happens. I do agree that the market is getting saturated. I also noticed that people that have bought from us aren’t registering their animals. I think because of the steps (and costs) you have to go through to register them. Pinevalley, yes, it's very discouraging when people buy Dexters and don't bother to register their calves; in fact, it's downright insulting because one's farm name and reputation are dead-ended! Hope you are able to sell your heifer! Littlecow, Gene AND I both referred a FB person in Florida looking for Dexters to you (not by name). Maybe they've gotten in touch with you! Gale We are selling our heifer and she is going to a good home. And she is going to register her animals.

Glad you found a home for her. My two are still for sale. No, She was putting off the down payment. When I finally asked her about it, she attempted to send a PayPal down payment and it was declined. By that point I told her I was going to keep her.

Wow. That's strange. There is a bit of a nut that calls me about buying cows. She is a known hoarder, so I never have anything for sale.

Wow. That's strange. There is a bit of a nut that calls me about buying cows. She is a known hoarder, so I never have anything for sale. She said she paid so much for her bull calf that she didn’t have very much money left for a heifer. She could have bought the heifer and used AI......... Why do people buy a bull first? I guess it was a test for me to see if she would make a down payment, I felt something wasn’t right. I would rather keep my heifer and not have to eventually buy her back. Been there done that.

Thanks for the help! I sold the cows I needed to. Might have one more for sale later. Now, if it would just rain.

Thanks for the help! I sold the cows I needed to. Might have one more for sale later. Now, if it would just rain. I am glad that you sold the ones you had up for sale. We are selling three, cow, calf pair and her yearling heifer calf. They are going to be picked up next week. We have a down payment on our bull, we are going to go a winter without one. First time in quite a while. At least I think I will. Lol you never know. I am checking on AI in our area, we will be down to 3 bred cows and two heifer calves for next winter. I really like the white Dexter’s but not sure if I would be tarred and feathered in the ADCA dexter world. I don’t know maybe even a dun bull next. I like having options. We need rain too! I will say a prayer for both of us for rain.
