I have been researching Dexters quite a while and am hoping to bring home my first few soon. Looking for the difference in overall performance between horned and polled genetics has not turned up any results. Does anyone have an opinion on the horned vs poll debate?

Looking for the difference in overall performance between horned and polled genetics David Hi David, welcome to the group. To answer your question, I don't believe there is any overall performance differences between horned or polled Dexters or any other breed of cattle. "Most scientific studies have demonstrated a lack of difference in growth, reproductive performance, mortality, carcass and behavioural traits between polled and horned animals in Bos taurus breeds" The above quote was taken from a Brahman association site. Others might differ, I guess we'll have to wait to see what they have to say. Barb

My primary goal with Dexters is for grass finished beef without the use of grain.
I am interested in hearing both sides of this topic since I was not able to locate any scientific data from any studies.
The only positive of selecting for this trait seems to be the obvious, no horns. Has anyone come across information showing any other positive traits from this? Negatives?
