It seems we have nearly 23 pages of Kirk initiated postings. Once the "true short" thread started to fizzle, along comes a new thread of "genetic defect ELIMINATION policy".
Anybody who denies that this thread is just an extension of his "true short" thread with the added threat of a witch hunt to deny registration to the animals that carry chondrodysplasia has their head in the sand.
Quick... somebody make a phone call to Mr. Delaney, the new website designer for the ADCA. The line drawings of the Dexters at the top are not only horned, but the bull bears a striking resemblance to a chondro carrier. It's not fair to the non-chondro polled owners of Dexters.
And I wouldn't classify Kirk as brave. He's just provocative, and dogmatic. Certainly not tolerant of other Dexter owners' passion for their herd and their desire to continue their membership in a registry that they have belonged for years, and has always accepted chondrodysplasia as a characteristic of the breed. He is free to express his opinion, but when it becomes an agenda he's going to run into resistance, as 23 pages and growing demonstrates.

Elemental,
Please show me where I have been rude, or made any offensive personal remarks to anyone on this board at any time. I ask you this because if I have it was unintentional and I will do my very best to make amends to that person and apologize for my actions. I have been trying from the very beginning to get people to stop, slow down, take a breath, quit hurting one another. Please go back and re read my posts. It was obvious from the early beginnings of this wave of threads that things were going to go badly. It was set up that way. (not by me) With words like:
Chondro vs. non chondro lawn ornaments Weaning? and so many others please go back and look If Kirk was personally named in my post it was because he authored the policy. It was His policy being debated. Who else should I have asked? And I only used his name personally when asking him questions about his facts, his sources. Because someone writes something in a post does not mean it is a proven fact. There must be accountability. Especially when you are trying to create new guidelines and write policy. This is important stuff. We are talking about the very facts here he is using to back up his policy. The Genetic Defect Elimination Policy. Please reread the name of the policy in question and think about it. These are issues HE is defining as Genetic Defects and they will be Eliminated from the American Dexter Herd if he succeeds in his goals. He has even stated many times his goal is to have them implemented internationally. This is very alarming to me and to many of others in the Dexter community. The fact that I do not agree with the guidelines and procedures in this Genetic Defect Elimination Policy are very evident and I have stated this many times.
Kirk was not just making a statement and then moving along. Like "I like red dexters. I think they are wonderful. " That would simply be making an opinion. Like I have said before everyone has opinions. He is trying to make policy here. GENETIC DEFECT ELIMINATION POLICY This is a totally different thing here. This policy if adopted will affect every one of us. It will change how we do things. It will affect AI immensely. It will severely limit the bulls available to you and I now, and those that will be made available to us in the future. Our entire breeding plan will be changed. Many dexters will be denied registration if this policy goes into effect. Testing qualifications will be changed. The financial burden placed on many of our members will be unbelievable. While he himself asserts that he will be exempt from this burden he hopes to place on the membership.
I personally believe this is a true threat to us all.

This is an ad-on to my prior post. I chose to do it this way and not just hit modify because I did not want to cause confustion. If you go back and look in my recent posts I even stated that I did not have a problem with any person involved in this debate. I said it was the policy I was trying to fight not the people. There is a huge difference.

WVDexters, Kirk is just a member of an association just like you are. He alone cannot make a policy, he may be posting to see what support (or not) that he gets, or ask for ideas, or want to work with like minded people on putting a policy forward.
Then there comes the process of getting it worded (legally) presenting to the Board, and then they would review it, or maybe send it to committee for review. It's not something that would happen overnight and nothing that could be implemented overnight.
Even if it got that far, eliminating Chondro. carriers from the largest registry in North America would go to the vote of the whole membership (IMO), so don't get yourself upset over it all, take it for what it is, just a discussion. Hope I eased your mind some.

To answer Kirk's question from a while back: no, this forum isn't affiliated with ADCA. I should've expressed myself better when suggesting that he address the official venues of changing the genetic policy - "at the association of choice". While sharing opinions is greatly valued on this forum, I do not believe that the forum is the proper place to hold a focus group on any organization's genetic policy. The communication on the forum is too impersonal, pushing people to act uncivilized toward each other. If anyone is interested in having a face-to-face debate, please use a different service like ooVoo, for example. Feel free to use the Poll feature, too. I'm locking the 2 topics with too many pages. And no, I'm not limiting free speech or hiding anything. After so many pages, all the vital info has already been shared.
