We have had 3 of these in the last 3 years.....All bull calves....They were very beefy looking in comparison to a jersey...

Rezzful,
The first calf Nollaig ever sired, ( Brenn's sire) was a Jersey cross. You could not tell the difference in "Nolegs", and the best tiny Dexter in the field. I've seen other Jersey/Dex crosses and they have all been black and very Dexter-ish. Many of them are now called "Mini Jerseys". or the name given them in WA state, "Belle- - something.

It may be the color of the parents, ours have all been brindle colored a rusty red with dark brown/black swirling....Our Jersey is not solid, she is brown and white, she has been bred to a red dexter bull and a black dexter bull and both calves looked about the same.....We are now back to a red bull and we will see what we get this year, hopefully it is a heifer this time.....

all Jerseys are homo E+. The standard color rules apply regardless of breed.
if the Dexter is: 1. ED ED dominates E+ and producesa a black calf 2. ED E+ can produce either a black or red calf 3. ED e ditto 4. E+ x E+ or e produces a red calf brown must carry a black gene, so you would get #2 or 3.
cheers, c.

The name you were looking for Judy is Belmont or Belmont Irish Jersey. A true mini Jersey shouldn't have any other breed mixed in but that doesn't stop some breeders from mis-labeling their animals.

Thanks everyone, I think I may try to find a Jersey cow to mix in the herd. Should be fun.
