Thanks for help, Louise! It may have been just what you described, but there was definitely a foul odor and she was running a low grade fever. She has had two doses of kaopectate and her antibiotics. She is livelier than she was this morning. Maybe good ol' Bonny does have some rich colostrum. Maybe smething set up in there because of our humid weather. Either way, our vet was happy with her progress when I just called him. I was a bit high on the dosage for kaopectate. For a 40-50 lb calf, the dose is 15-30 mL.

littlecow, our last calf born had a ton of that yellow gunk, it was like thick paste. I had never seen it on any of our other calves. I just kept cleaning off her butt and it was gone after a few days.
All I kept think was that it was just like a human babies first few poops. Remember the black thick tar like poop your little one had right after being born.
Yucky but normal.... Best of luck with you newest addition.
