Our future herd sire Mrald Crown Royal came out of the Royal Hilton Hotel yesterday and got turned loose in the pasture. He was in, what else? High spirits! (His first "formal portrait" will be forthcoming once the weather warms up a bit.)

Hi Susan
He looks to be enjoying himself.
This reminds me of my late youth when working on a dairy farm in the UK. The dairy herd was housed in winter and come springtime they are turned out onto grass. for the first time it is just like your young bull, but 60 grown dairy cows some very well endowed is a sight to behold doing likewise.

I'd love to know how he got that name. One of my favorite adult beverages! I also am a big fan of the Mrald lines. I plan to use one of their bulls this year.

Hi Susan,
What a pretty boy you have there! I am also a big fan of the Mrald lines and carry them on my farm as well. Stefani is a very knowledgeable breeder. I also know that Crown Royal's dam, Electra, is exceptional. So excited to see his offspring! Hope you post more pics!

How are Mrald cows coming from two breeders? Like Mrald Overture from Stefani Millman and Mrald Crown Royal from Susan Barron?

Will,
"Emerald Park Dexters" is the herd name that is used by both Stefani & Chris Millman and Susan Barron. They appear to have ownership of certain cows and bulls within this herd, sort of like "subsets" of the herd. They each have their own ADCA membership number, and they each register what they breed and own, under those member ID numbers. But since it is the Emerald Park Dexter herd, the animals that they breed are all registered using the same herd prefix "Mrald".

Occ, I believe Susan is Stefani's mother. I know that Royal was with Stefani for awhile, and when he was weaned he went to be with Susan. I think their places are quite close. Dave (Dahdo), it's a fun story how he got his name. As a baby he was quite affectionate, giving lots of affectionate licks. (He still gives friendly licks, in fact.) So they nicknamed him "Mr. Licker." Stefani said they thought of naming him Crown Royal, but gave us the option of naming him when we decided to buy him. I started thinking about the possibilities for naming his offspring with a name like Crown Royal, and I came up with over 100 potential names. Figuring that should keep him happily occupied, we decided to go with Crown Royal. We then, of course, had to get some in our liquor cabinet! Maybe we should include a bottle with everyone of his calves we sell. Thank you, everyone. We're very excited about him. Yes, his dam Electra is exceptional, Eileen. She scored full points for her udder and has extremely high butterfat and protein, as well as turning into a super milk cow. Stefani has info on her on the Emerald Park website, on the cow page under Mrald Electra. The story of how the Millmans rescued Electra's dam and how she got her name is quite interesting, too. I love a name with a story! No worries, there will be plenty of photos coming!

I show with Stefani in the summer, and took some fun pictures of this little licker Have you seen any of the pictures from the Pacific Northwest Dexter Club on facebook? I think that is where most of them ended up. He was a licker and very lovey.

Cute photos of him enjoying his expanded freedom! Yesterday I was laughing at our own little bull calves as they were tearing around the area they're in. A good portion is packed snow but there are areas that are still a couple of feet deep that haven't been trampled. Occasionally they would venture into the deep snow and come to a screeching halt with a giant puff of white, sort of like Gene's video that he posted a few days ago with the dogs.

Rusty Ranch, thanks SO much for putting me on to those photos! They are such a hoot! Stefani told me she had to put that sign up to keep people from having their dirty hands in his mouth. I haven't met her or Chris so I have no idea what they look like. I was trying to see if I could spot Royal with them in other photos, but the licker ones were a dead giveaway.

You liked the page right? I am one of the moderators on that page. I will see if there were any pictures of her or Chris is the ring with him. It gets kind of crazy when we are showing, I am trying to show/take pictures and help anyone who needs a hand in the show ring. So I don't always know what kind of pictures get taken.
And yes he was all about anyone's hands coming near him. It was hard to keep people away. I swear they always get upset when we tell them don't touch the animals, especially when it is a calf. I went rounds with one lady, who had a 3-4yr old and then a little baby in a carrier thing on. She just didn't get that we don't want people touching the animals, especially the babies. I finally had to tell her, ok it is like this. Do you want strangers coming up and touching your baby and putting their hands in their mouth? You just don't know what germs are on people, and it is the same concept with the animals. You could see the wheels turn as she got it.
