Hey don't worry about it. We all do it ... A few yrs ago I had to break it to a very dear friend of mine that she was 39 not 38 yrs old. Poor thing, on her birthday too. She felt like she aged 2 yrs that time. At least your girl gets to be (feel) younger. You should have more cake!

Thanks for that wvdexters I have had a good lunch, and followed it with strawberries and cream, maybe I don't need cake?!!! Spice however has found her own way to celebrate, I just went out to try to get a good pic of her for our UK Dexter bulletin and she was busy beating up a lilac bush, she had pulled a big branch over into her paddock and was giving it a bashing, she did eat some but wasn't very interested but the Herdwick ram in the next paddock enjoyed the spoils, especially the flowers. Last year ladena asked me if I had a name for the bull calf out of my oldest cow Spice. I didn't as an old friend Beryl had told me years ago that it was unlucky to name a bull before he was registered. Well he was registered quite a while back, his first calf is due at the end of January and I've called him Duffryn Bevis. Possibly an odd name but Beryl Rutherford called her herd Woodmagic after the title of a book she read in childhood. There is a book by the same author called Bevis The Story Of A Boy. Which is why I've called him Bevis.

stephanie, I was wondering! I love a name with a story behind it! Too bad we can't link their pedigrees to the stories!

Well Bevis has gone to be collected for AI now and then he goes to a big herd, so in a way he is starting his own story....I hate it when they go!!! I have bought both books they are still obtainable.

Hi All, Stephanie, just catching up on the forum, I don't know the book "Bevis, The Story Of A Boy" but Bevis is also the name of boy in "Woodmagic". Beryl sent me a copy way back. Margaret.

Hello blueboy2 - here in the UK dairy cake is a special feed made for milking cows that looks similar to pony nuts. It is high in protein. Usually 16% or higher. For this reason it tends to make their toes grow long. Any high protein feed makes cattle feet grow, or over feeding in general. Broken wheat is a term for milled wheat. It isn't flat like rolled barley but more in bits - hence broken, it can be a bit dusty but is good for adding things too like minerals, oils etc. Suckler Rolls are a food made into bigger nuts especially for suckler cows. They are big so they can be fed on the ground and still found. They are designed to be fed in small quantities but still have all the required minerals, they aren't meant to feed, they are meant to give all minerals and trace elements that the cow may require in a small "dose", in this case two pounds per adult cow per day. It is an extra expense but if for instance it prevents a magnesium deficiency it is money well spent!!!
Does that go some way to answering your question?
To be honest wagradexters I have the book and haven't read much of it - I feel rather bad about that!

I thought that was a contest--the one who dies with the most unread books is the winner. I'm definitely in the running for the prize!
