Well congratulations Irininger & Euchee. That makes 2 born on Valentines day, well actually 3. Aislingmeadows called me this morning with a new addition to her herd. She still wasn't sure if it was a heifer or bull, hopefully she'll chime in and let us know. She was so excited.
So what kind of names are you going to give these sweethearts?

Still no calf from Sioux or Maxine. I remember they were bred 1 heat apart, but I can't remember for the life of me which one took first. But at least when one has a calf, I'll know the next one is about 3 weeks away.

Sioux is going to calve within 24 hours for sure, may be even tonight. Hopefully I'll have pictures by late morning.

Was I wrong or was I wrong? Still no calf! Sioux looks like she's going to split like a clamshell and out will come a full grown cow. Sioux always looks like she'll have twins, but has never had a set to my knowledge. She looks really ready, so I'm optimistic - so much so that I left her in the barn tonight. Maxine isn't far behind either. I think she was bred 18 days after Sioux.

I feel you, Olga. Billy Jean looks as though she is ready to pop, and Pauline less so. They are both staying closer to home; at night they are curling up in the hay in the corral even though they browse the hills in the day. It has been snowing quietly and steadily for the past two days; last night it was like the cut-up 'cellophane snow', scattering on the drifts in little individual flakes. At least it has warmed up into the 20's at night! I dread having my babies during a howling blizzard (we had one in March last year). And the girls, bred at the same time by the same bull, are supposed to be due in March... If I HAD fingernails they would be thoroughly gnawed by now!

Ditto about the nails! I was constantly getting up yesterday and looking out of the window at the cows, kept walking up there, even though I knew that Sioux wasn't in labor. I just can't fathom her carrying that calf much longer. As to your cold weather - sounds cold - in fact, too cold for me. Justus always jokes that I'm not really from Russia because I don't like temps below 60. Actually, this year we had some record low temps, and now I can appreciate even the low 50's. But you'll never hear me say "it has warmed up into the 20's"!

Olga,
You wouldn't have liked it here this morning. It was -5 when I dropped my kids off at the Bus Stop on my way to work.

Well, it got up to 50 degrees here yesterday - and Billy Jean went into labor and dropped her calf. Within two hours from the first sign, the calf was out, up, and sucking mightily at Mom's teat! No trouble at all... Last night, the still-pregnant Pauline and the year-old bull were laying in a circle with Mama and baby, everyone mooing softly at each other in the straw.
