The American Dexer Cattle Association has semen for sale listed on it's website. They will have a lot to chose from, maybe you can find what you need there. P.J.

Hendrik, This board is North American. You might have better luck asking your question on the UK board at the link below..marion www.dextercattleforsale.co.uk/

Hi Hendrik. I've seen semen collected in Canada eligible for export to South Africa, without being collected specifically for your country. I believe that Riverhill Dusk Enchanter and Riverhill Saturn's Galaxy were both sent to SA about 10 years ago. Both are non-dwarf. I don't know who brought the semen in, though. You might try the gov't office who would have been involved through the import permit. If there is any semen left, you might try it. Dusk was a large Dexter, much like many of the SA ones, and Galaxy was by one of England's top bulls, Saturn of Knotting. He produced both very heavy muscling, and excellent udders without the large frame size. (You can get an idea of what he puts out by looking up the picture of Hiyu Reiver in the ADCA website photo (black) section. Reiver is another Saturn descendant through a different line, but the offspring are consistent.)
if Chris is still farming Dexters in KwaZulu Natal, he had some nice red non-dwarf Dexters that were quite beefy, and might be a source for you. Let us know how you get on. regards, Carol Davidson.

Hi all Thank you for the reply, I have looked at a lot of AI bulls in the business and the most of the semen can't be exported out of the land of origin. I will look if I can find out about the semen that is been imported into South Africa. I bought 10 females from 4 different breeders and their are all in some way family, so what I need is new genetics that is not in South Africa at the moment.
Thanks again for the reply
Hendrik

Hi Carol
Do you perhaps have got the information on the Bulls in Canada. We need permission from our Directorate of Animal Production and the relevant Breeder Society to import semen in South Africa. Thank you Hendrik

hendrik, get in touch via email, if you will. Click on 'members' above, scroll down page 2 to cddexter, and my address is there. I'll see if I can get you the info you need. I haven't kept up with SA in recent years, so don't know who's running the Society now, and I'm sure the SA Stud Book Association manager I met is long gone, too. It's been 10 years since I was there, so can't even recall the name of the semen agent who was doing Dexter things back then. Sorry. I'll help all I can, though. regards, c.
