Interesting for sure. My first thought was that although they said that the "commercial" steers were killed at 15 months and that their carbon footprint was shorter than the grassfed steer, they didn't mention just how long it took them to grow the corn and the diesel involved and the water and the fertilizer and the time and........., maybe their "carbon footprint" wouldn't look so good with all that added! Thanks for posting , was interesting.

I generally discount anything that comes from fox news. What a sarcastic attitude he had and that woman was an idiot has she ever been on a farm there is reason she is teaching and not doing. I would like them to both come to Iowa and drink a nice big glass of water out of our muddy polluted rivers from all of the corn and CAFOs we have here. Thats not waste that comes out of the cows when it stays on the pasture we call that fertilizer. Its as if they think corn just appears. They have no idea what kind of inputs it takes to grow corn and what the affects are of growing it. But Fox news got what they wanted advertising dollars. I clicked on it and had to watch the advertisement

I'm not a fan of John Stossle either, his sarcasam if very offputting. I know that if you put corn fed vs grass fed to a bunch of people, you will get the most votes for the corn fed, because thats what they are used to eating. Grass fed it a flavor most people don't know, and with most folks, they like what they know. In my opinion even if it weren't for the health benifits of grass fed, the costs of growing the corn for the feedlots, plus the pollution, antibiotics, hormones, cost to haul steers to the feedlot and then truck it all over the country just makes grass fed and locally bought all the more important, to me.

Her views on the lack of health benefits in grass fed go against everything I have ever seen published on the subject of grass fed, including from the Union of Concerned Scientists. How can cattle fed a diet for which they are not designed to eat be as good for you as one eating what they were designed to eat? You don't need to be a scientist to understand that.
If the audience couldn't tell the difference in the flavour, then they either had the wrong beef, or the audience was used to grain-fed and so preferred it for that reason.
Great presenter, glad you've got him not us.
PS. I read that Dr Jude Capper has connections with Monsanto.

"... do do..." - that's what she said... What a load of manure! So sad that general public won't get the sham - they either don't care enough or don't have enough common sense. It's the same reason why people buy into ethanol fuel...

WOW. Sure, all food has some sort of hormones in them, but it wasn't added, injected into it. Give me a break. John Stossel in an idiot, and so was his guest. Wouldnt surprise me if she was on Monsanto's payroll. Ugh.
Oh, and I personally feel the grass/corn fed taste is a personal one.......I like corn fed better, hubby likes grass fed. We feed corn the last 3 months (as an added supplement, whole they are still on grass). adds a little more marble and hey thats how we like it. Iknow I am healthier for it (not buying commercial).

I think you are very right, laughinglama, even though I don't like the corn fed aspect of feeding one out, at least yours have corn and grass, no antibiotics, and no hormones , plus they haven't stood knee deep in manure for the last 4 months. yes, your beef is waaaaaay better than anything you could go buy in the store.

I can't get the video to play right now :-(
Did they touch on the fact that poultry litter is fed to CAFO cattle? (High nitrogen/protien from feathers, etc)
Or the fact that BT (gmo corn) has been found in human blood samples, so it is obvious that the BT corn is also in those CAFO steaks?
Fox news is such a joke. I really don't understand why they aren't forced to put quotes around the word news in their title.
Well, we're getting a very nice, much needed rain here... not tropical storm level, not huricane flooding level, just a nice rain that sounds like a garden hose spraying the whole valley.... best wishes to everyone else dealing with the rains.

Joel Salatin did a response to the article recently, but I can't find it... Personally, knowing what is put into as well as done to commercial meat, we are truly excited to be able to process our own beef shortly. :-)

I was just thinking they should have had Joel Salatin on to debate her and get both sides. I think it was in Joel's book where I read the comment that people that are concerned about cow emissions seem to forget that there were once millions of bison roaming across this country, we just replaced them with cattle for no net change. I like John Stossel, but this was a poorly researched segment.
