I was looking for a little heifer for my grandson to handle and possibly show. He is a little timid of the calves and so thought I might try a shortlegged heifer for him. I thought I had found just what I was looking for only to find that she is registered with the PDCA and not the ADCA. Since her sire was not tested to my knowledge she can not be transferred into the ADCA registry. I believe this is correct, is it?

I'm not certain (my guess is sire must be genotyped) but I bet your regional director can get a definite answer for you: Gene Pittman, Region 6 (Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma) - genepittmanadca@gmail.com or call 918-456-4732.

Thanks, I will do that. But as a matter of fact this afternoon my grandson decided that he could try to work with a little heifer I am just now weining. She is my last one of the year and she is my favorite. She is very calm and sweet so I let him have a go at working with her. They both did great, so I think we have found his heifer at least that is what he is telling me. But I still wonder about those animals that will be lost to the ADCA along with the genetics that go with them.

I did check the Legacy Dexter Cattle Registry but found no record. The sire is registered with the ADCA but as a steer. I am still trying to locate the sires last owner to see if he is possibly still living. So know it is a long shot but still working on it.
