Hello - I'm desperately seeking a dexter cattle crush to rent from somewhere in the South East. Can't find any firm nearby to help. If anyone has any suggestions they'd be much appreciated!

Hi Emilia,
Since you're calling it a "Crush", I'm guessing that you're in South East Australia, not the United States. We call it a "Squeeze Chute". Check with your veterinarian, or anyone with a large cattle operation, most of them will have a portable "crush". Your Dexter Association probably has a list of members that are in your area and that can serve as a starting point. Call people that have had cattle for awhile, they may be able to connect you to the resources that you need.
Good Luck!
Patti

;D ;D ;D What a wonderful subject but I am sorry I can't be of any help here. I don't have one either. I thought this was going to be someone telling us how much they love their Dexters. Possibly with pictures even. Good luck in your search. I hope you find one.

Hi Emilia,
I'm in the southeast. Where are you located? Possibly I can point you in the right direction.

I call it a crush, don't now why, it doesn't crush anything! You can borrow mine so long as you do the transport ;D.
How about making one using gates and string? I've done it and it can work for small numbers. Usually make mine up against a tall fence or wall and then put something behind to stop them backing out. Usually just use a rope, but a steel bar would do it. And I try to put a head collar on as well and tie them forwards.

Ooooh, isn't 'crush' just one of those onomatopoeic words?! You can hear the juices flowing. I'd rather it was not called a crush if our Dexters have to go in there ;D

When I got my crush (Yes, I'm Australian!) it was unloaded in our driveway out the front of our house. I had some friends over (some of them non cow savvy) and one of them asked what it was. I told her (very proudly) that it was my new cattle crush. She asked what it did. I replied - That's how you make mince - you put the cow in it and it crushes it. Emilia - if you are in Australia - Arrow make a crush especially designed for Dexters called "The Stubby". Check with your local rural supply agent.

Genebo Yes, our mince is your ground beef. Here "ground" is something we normally stand on ;D . Beef has the same meaning I won't tell you how nice it is here in Tasmania - we are trying to keep it a secret! (All 3 of us Tasmanians who have invaded your chat site are "imports" from the mainland of Australia and none of us intend moving!!!) And by the way, I'm a little "old fashioned" and prefer "Mrs" (not that you would have known so I'll forgive you... )
