Some people like polled cattle for safety and others love their horns. Let it be, each to his own. Who really cares if 15 generations ago there was an introgression, by now with successive generations it has been so diluted down. This is what early breeders creating breeds did. Do you really think that Dexters came from the time of Adam and Eve as purebloods. This is how the Dexter was created, from other breeds and types. Look at where the Dexter came from. We like to picture it as a lovely little existence of a cottage cow. Not so. Have you been to Ireland? Do you know how they lived back in the 1800's and 1900's even up until recently. They were poor, incredibly poor like 3rd world countries, thanks to the English. They were interested in feeding their children and surviving than having "pureblood" cattle. They bred their cows to anything, to the Master's bull no doubt if they got a chance. What I'm getting at, is that the original Dexters would have been far from "pureblood". You don't have DNA'ing way back to prove any Dexters are "pureblood". How far back to "Legacy" cattle have DNA to prove their pedigree? So if polled isn't acceptable to some, is white on their cattle ok? Or brindle marking on the reds? Or cropped ears? Where do you think this came from?
