Hi everyone, we have a steer almost ready for the freezer. He is the son of the cow in the Milky Cow thread. He is a 14month old chondro carrier, about 95cm tall ( 38 inches). He was weaned from his mother at 10 months of age, has only been grass fed till 13 months of age. We started to finish him on grain about a month ago (13months), we used a weigh tape to estimate a weight then, we don't have the finances or the use, to have livestock scales, and estimated his weight as 230kg (about 500lb). we will "weigh" him again after a month of grain pellets, and see what he has gained. he is getting about 1 1/2 -2 kg (3-4lbs) of pellets each day plus standing dry pasture. Visually, the way he has laid down fat this last month, we think he will be ready to go within the next month or so. We're expecting to get some great meat. Here are some photos of him regards Louise

Wow, he's really nice and fat! You'll have to share some photos of the meat when you get it.

Hi Susan, yes I will. He's not got quite enough fat cover for us yet, we would like a few more mm yet. We usually hang for 2 weeks, but we're thinking we might try hanging for a little longer this time. We've just had to buy a new freezer to put him in, we have a couple of lambs and a calf being done in the next few weeks that will use up our existing freezer. regards Louise
