Hi everyone, This is just an odd post... but I thought it would be worth a shot. I am moving to Pikeville, KY this coming weekend and I will be there until May/June of next year. I am joining the husband there while he does a fellowship for medical school. However, I will be MAJORLY animal deprived... we have an apartment and no animals allowed. Is there anyone around that area that may need some extra help around the farm? I have experience with just about everything. Breaking and training are some things that I enjoy doing.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks! Emily

Hmmm, he could come to Australia and do a residency over here, many young overseas doctors do. We often have them do a years rotation through our little local hospital, 27 bed. Great training, they have to be able to do A/E, short term ICU till the patients can be transported, we have full ventilation facilities, O&G, paeds, ortho, surgery including caesars, palliative care, cancer care, the works. You would be welcome to come to my farm LOL.
I feel for you, been there , done that. It is awful. Living in accommodation when your heart yearns for the outdoors, fresh air, space, and an animal fix is soooo hard. If you can't organise anything, wait till you get there and befriend a few local farmers, that is what I ended up doing.

from MI to pike co ky what a challenge that will be. There is lots of 100-200+ acres in pike co and the owners can stand on the porch and look at all 4 corners of the farm just by look n up,,,, Cow there has 2 long legs and 2 short so they can stay on the hillside ? In the past I worked and stayed in eastern ky for months it made me depressed after a few weeks and I would have to go home fer a few days so I could breath the mountains seemed to close in after a time. especaly in the short days of winter 2 hours of sun lite just ant enough fer me. you may have to look up 23 to the north fer more farming Paintsville, prestingburg, Louisa in those areas. good luck on your big adventure over there, but soak up all the mountain heritage and skills you can its something that will help u in lifes journey Bill

I haven't had much luck with anything really farm related in the area so far... its going to be a tough transition for me. Especially the lack of SNOW in the winter months! I am looking forward to the mountains but like you said, they close in on you after awhile...
