I am interested in purchase one angus steer calf for freezer beef. Does anyone know if dexters (bull & heifer) get along with full sized cattle on a small acreage or should I expect problems?

Ours have. We used to have 7 large cows and used our Dexter bull for breeding. We now only have 1 mixed breed large cow left--she will live here til she dies. I find more fighting among the Dexter girls than I ever had when we had large cows.

MOST OF THE TIME everyone gets along, except if you introduce a new bull to a group where there is already a bull. You'll get a territory/dominance issue.
Introducing anything new will usually cause a minor headbutt/chase scenario until the pecking order is determined, then things settle down and all is good.
A steer shouldn't be any problem.
good luck, carol d

We don't have any temperament issues, only fence issues with the larger cattle. Sometimes I forget how respectful dexters are of fencing. The Angus and baldies do not recognize fence boundaries near as easily and seem to create a lot of fence maintenance.
