Best news of the day! So happy that the ADCA can now move forward in such a positive manner. Future owners of registered Dexter cattle will have the benefit of knowing that their pedigrees are verified and recorded properly. This is a big WIN for the future of the Dexter breed in the United States!

I'm not sure how many of you saw what was posted on the ADCA website from president Jim Woehl. If not here is his letter along with the voting results.
Dear ADCA members; As you are all aware, the vote to genotype female calves was accomplished at the Annual General Meeting on June 20. All voters (members in attendance and Proxy) were validated by the Secretary and Registrar as being current members of the ADCA prior to the vote and tally. After a very good discussion on the floor, the vote totals, as tallied by the Registrar, the Secretary and four (4) at- large members in attendance, were as follows: In Attendance: YES 41 NO 12 Proxy ballots YES 112 NO 17 TOTAL YES 153 (84%) NO 29 (16%) Accordingly, the new registration requirements will begin January 1, 2016. As a reminder, these new registration requirements are: • All females, born on or after January 1, 2016, must have a genotype on file at an approved lab prior to registration. • Bull calves, born on or after January 1, 2016 are required to be genotyped and sire qualified prior to registration (no change, this is what we do now) • The offspring of all 2016 calves (and all offspring thereafter) must have a genotype with parentage verification on file at an approved lab (with their genotype reports residing at the same lab as the reports of both their sire and dam). • Steers are exempt from these genotyping requirements I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the members of the American Dexter Cattle Association, for your engagement and active participation in this process I firmly believe that your affirmative action on this issue will offer multiple, long term benefits to our wonderful breed. Jim Woehl President

It's encouraging to me to see that this is indeed member-driven, as has been said all along. I truly appreciate the BOD pulling their initial proposal, which reassured us at that time that they do listen to us. I know they all worked long and hard to come up with this proposal that just passed, and I think the overwhelming majority in favor of it says very clearly, "We, the ADCA membership, support female genotyping and ultimately full parentage verification."
There were some comments from a few breeders in the past few months implying that the genotyping proposal was a "ploy" of some kind with some ulterior motive. I hope statements like that will now be laid to rest. I believe that the ADCA membership has educated itself on genotyping and PV and has made it clear by their "affirmative action" that far from seeing any kind of nefarious purpose, they see the clear advantage for our Dexter breed.
