I thought I would immunize my cows a month before they delivered a new calf. I had read that this was frequently done in beef operations. My vet seemed to frown on the idea when I had him here for another minor issue. I was going to use only killed virus and vaccine in a multi immunization. It would be a booster except that I was thinking of adding tetanus as well.
What say ye?

Our vet recommends we give boosters to the cows a month before their due date to boost their immunity so the calf gets the full benefit through the colostrum. Funny how different vets have different ideas. kansasdexters, can you remind us when you give boosters?

Since Patti hasn't had chance, I'll post a link to her response to a thread on vaccinations that @zepherhillsusan started last year. The answer in a nutshell is that she gives boosters within a week week before or immediately after calving. I have adopted pretty much the same protocol. dextercattle.proboards.com/post/37249

Thanks, Dahdo! I printed that out for my records. I'll do it closer to due dates and I think the immunizations are equivalent to the ones I have.
