Meet Ruari she is the result of crossing our registered Dexter heifer Peyton with a Miniature Hereford Bull that consistently throws low birth weight calves. She was approx 30lbs at birth. Her legs were positioned above her head so we did have to help pull her. The photos are from 12hrs old and then 3 days old. Her mother was about 45lbs when born for comparison. The 3rd photo is Peyton at a few hours old and mother Joy. Joy is about 1000lbs at almost 8 yes old. Peyton is around 750lbs now. We have 5 registered Dexters. 2 adult cows, Autumn and Joy, that are 7 and almost 8 years old respectively. 3 of their daughters make up the rest of our breeding stock, Ciara, Peyton, and the youngest Aoife. Aoife hasn't been bred yet but will try AI on her next week to another mini Hereford bull. Ciara is due in 8 weeks. She is bred to the same bull as Peyton was. All of our girls are black but carry the red gene. So the dexfords should have an equal chance of black with white face vs red with white face. Our adults are now being crossed to Tajima line Wagyu bulls. The first bull calf, Kobe, was born in April and was approximately 50lbs. He has since been castrated. Autumn had no problems calving him. He was her 5th calf. Joy is due around Thanksgiving and this will be her 6th calf. The last photo is Kobe with Autumn, about 6 hours after being born. Kobe as his name implies will be raised to around 30months before we process him.
