It is with sadness I pass on the info that Marcie died suddenly Thursday. Most of you won't know her or perhaps even have heard of her, but for those of us oldies, Marcie was in institution. Old Orchard was a mainstay herd for many years, and Marcie would fly calves all over the US to help spread Dexters. Pretty well all animals today have some Old Orchard somewhere back there in the pedigree. She had lovely animals, and had a good eye for stock. Marcie suffered a brain injury when involved in an accident riding one day, and she struggled to continue with impaired function. Her kids were bastions of strength, and saw her through the intervening years. For those of us who remember her from earlier and better times, and for her passion for Dexters, it's another door closing. RIP.

I did not know Marcia personally, but knew much about her and the Old Orchard line. I remember her having her riding accident and had hoped she would pull through. Life is never easy, especially when we lose a breeder that worked so hard for the Dexter breed. She is resting at piece now. Thank you C for letting us know.

I was at Old Orchard sometime in the late '80s for an AGM. Nice place. Great person. I used to go to all the AGMs so met her at east annually for a number of years. Back itgod (in the good old days), she put calves in the back of the car and drove up to the Ontario border and did a trade at the border at some small rural crossing, which brought Old Orchard into Canada to Pat Freeman's place. Neither had the faintest idea they were supposed to do all sorts of paperwork and testing. Can't imagine getting away with that today. One of those political memories you laugh over later: Marcie agreed to hold the AGM again, but in the meantime the husband of the most influential member of the Board decided he wanted someone else in (who was more malleable...don't remember all the details but I think it involved him phoning her and telling her she'd been there too long it was time for a change so don't run, or something like that), and a newbie replaced her. She did the honorable thing and organized the AGM as she'd promised, anyway, but didn't attend. The fighting is never so fierce as when the stakes are small. c.
