Hello everyone, We look forward to learning more about Dexter friends, two and four legged. We are located 30 miles from Downtown Dallas, TX and have a small herd of 17...we consider ourselves newbies and adore this wonderful breed. Our goal is to help preserve Dexters and help homesteaders see the value in our cattle. We enjoy sharing our Dexters with others. We took our "wee little girls" to the North Texas Irish Festival in Fair Park, Dallas, earlier this spring. This is our second year. I will try to share photos. It is bred for meat, milk and skin. Males of the species are called bulls, young animals are called calves and heifers, castrated males are called oxen. Young (up to the first pregnancy) females are called heifers. A heifer is a productively inseminated (pregnant) heifer. Pregnancy lasts 9 months. There are meat, meat, dairy and dairy breeds of cows.
