Hi everyone, Its been quite awhile since I have posted in this forum, but figured this would be a good place to ask... In May I opened up my own small business selling Dexter beef, pork, and lamb by the retail cut. My family had always talked about opening up our own little meat shop, so I did. Anyway, I have since sold 2.25 beef, 3 lambs, and 2.5 hogs out of my freezers. I attend a small local farmers market and have mostly enjoyed doing that. However, I also hold store hours at the "business" AKA my house. I could dance in the streets and not have anyone even stop. I live in downtown Zeeland, about 15mins from the shores of Lake Michigan between Holland and Grand Rapids. Zeeland isn't what I would call a small town. I know its all word of mouth and such but dang, how I get people in the door! I have an online store with ordering and payment options connected to the farm. Facebook advertising has been the worst due to their awesome policies that have changed... www.shamrockacresdextercattle.com/shopSO my after my ranting, how do I market in the off season? Farmer's market goes June-Sept. Any advice will be appreciated.

That’s a good question. We have a small weaving business and I have given up selling from the house. We hand out cards at Art Shows, and use Facebook and now have a website. That seems to work better. Do you have the capability to start a winter farm market? I know some cities are doing that, you might have better luck that way. Eventually word of mouth might help you establish your store. Not sure if this helps.
