Hi everyone. It's been an exciting week for us, two healthy calves on the ground and one of them a little heifer! My jersey, Brigit (Bardeau!) had a beautiful little bull calf and one of my Dexters, Burfoot Leila had a gorgeous little heifer from Riverhill Saturn's Galaxy. This is her second daughter from him but our first AI heifer! Ulicia, (Lissy), is so tiny, measured 23" this morning, and delicate looking. Can you tell I am totally besotted? I wanted to share some pictures of my girls with you. This first one is Leila, a little Cluny daughter, head cow of the herd in spite of her size! Her first day she had a fight with the Llama, Diva, who spit on her in distaste. Well it didn't scare Leila a bit because it went right over the top of her back! Leila is pretty angry at me right now because I have moved little Lissy to the calf barn to start milking mommy. This next picture is Lissy at two days old, playing hide and seek while I clean the barn! This is the same day with mom Finally here is Lissy today with her new barn buddy Bboy! She already started smacking her lips to the tune of Bboy drinking his bottle so I'm sure she is going to catch on quickly. Mommy on the other hand will settle down in a couple of days and remember how much she loves me ;DLissy is smaller than her full sister was at birth, Reannagh, and Reannagh's mature height is the same as her dam, 40". It will be interesting to see how she develops. I took a picture of Reannagh today, who was busy commiserating from the front field with Leila.

Thanks Adrienne; Those were the only pics that my husband took! I can't take a picture if my life depends on it now! I was corrected about Leila though. She has actually produced 4 Galaxy heifers and 3 bull calves, two of which were sired by Dunston and nice enough to be sold as bulls and one was steered. My excitement is only because this is the first Heifer calf born here of our breeding with AI. We only use AI and so far it has only produced bull calves on our farm! Well if the law of averages really does work I guess this is the beginning of the next 8 years of heifer calves! Liz
