I thought I was really going to find out something. Heck, if the personal touch worked I should be getting lots of milk. DD is milked OAD by hand by me; and I talk to her and pet her. With this cold weather, she has slacked off to about 1/2 gallon per day. I will have to turn her dry in another month.

Really Gene I think most Dexter owners that milk, already spend quality time with their cows and most of us spend way too much energy making sure they are 'happy'. After all they are family for me and I'm sure everyone out there. Actually I'm sure that the major 'problem' that we Dexter Breeders have is needing to understand how 'not to spoil' but to how to be strick! I agree with Isg that if 'happyness were the biggest factor, I would be 'awash' with milk! Milkyness is genetic also. Liz

I absolutely LOVED the accent...
and I am sure at large dairies where the cows are just numbers a little extra attention couldn't hurt, if anything if they got to know their cows better they would be able to tell if they were feeling under the weather sooner, and the hormone that is produced by stress decreasing couldn't hurt either. I am sure I would be a bit more productive at work if I felt more appreciation as well....

MY cows of course all have names. What's neat, is that they know their name, even when you loud whisper it! I guess it comes from my habit of going about the chores with a "HellooooAnnieAnnie, Rebaaa beeba beebaaa, Hi woolley bullyyy......how many of us sing while we're around the cows too? Stuff we would never think of usually..like 'Hello mudda, hello fadda (here I am at..Camp Granada..') Hmmm maybe I've been holed up in the backwoods too long..but my cows are HAPPY ;D
