I haven't had a close look at our two calves in a while. our 3 month old bull calf trots off to the back of the pasture as soon as he sees people approaching. He is a strutter! Our six month heifer just follows along.
Tonight they were in a small pasture close to the house. I closed them in and my eldest son and I chased them into the backyard. We lassoed them and then little Al (6'2" plus) brought them down until we could halter them and inspect them. He got thrown around abit. You wouldn't believe how a 6mo dexter can throw their weight around when their scared. We hadn't seen horn buds on the heifer yet. Luckily, they are their. We pet her a bit and both calves in the backyard with their moms for the night.
It's fun to get out with the kids and see them doing stuff with the animals. We didn't grow up on a farm so this is all exciting for us. I want that little bull halter broke and walking by 6 months.
Thanks for reading my story.
Al

It's a great time to spend with your kids, they never forget it. P.J.
