After weaning, I put halters on our two heifers and every morning and walked them to their feed buckets in tie stalls. In the evenings, I'd walk them back to the pasture and turn them loose. I didn't get to the point where I could halter them in the pasture but I can scratch their backs. I'm bringing them in to work with them some more.
With some new babies coming soon, i was just curious how other people do it.

I usually put a halter on for a few days when they are about a week old. they learn to stand tied and be pulled around a little bit. I turn them back out and when I wean they get a halter back on and we start the process of learning to give their head to pressure and start to lead. I keep the halter on while they are in the pen and they have to be haltered to eat and be handled. It seems like they kind of remember the early training, so it's not quite so hard to get them back on track. I like all mine to know how to stand tied and lead, you never know when you will need to restrain one. P.J.
