My wife and I currently live on a couple of acres in the mountains east of San Diego. For the last ten years we've been slowly acquiring livestock - started with a couple of trail horses and now up to chickens, goats, turkeys and most recently two Dexter cows. We had been talking about cattle for a while but didn't want to get a large breed milker because of available space and no need for that much milk. When we found out about the Dexters and had an opportunity to purchase, we jumped on it. We're working on a breeding program but as it's been quite a while since I've dealt with cattle, I'm really happy to have found this site. Looking forward to gaining and sharing as time goes by. Don, Where did you find your Dexters? I'm in Ramona and haven't seen anyone in California selling them. We have 5 acres and like you, I'm acquring livestock to keep our food bills down with our 3 kids who not only enjoy the animals, but are eating me out of house and home. Thanks, Phillip

Phillip - First of all, welcome to the board, lots of good stuff here. Secondly, there are some excellent cattle for sale locally. If you'd like you can e-mail me at coyotemoon@juno.com and maybe I can help you get started. Don

tressa, as this is a pretty old thread, you'd probably have better luck if you post this in the Auction Barn. I recommend you put "ISO cow/calf pair Northern/Central CA" as your subject to catch the attention of anyone in that area.
