Ah...thank you Patti, it was like going back in time and looking at a Woodmagic cow I used to know!

This is a neat reference thread. Here's my girl, Mixed Bag Violet. She's 4 years old, 3 months into her third lactation. I just took these pics at milking time; she'd been separated from her calf for 8 hours. I usually get between 2-3 quarts, leaving about 1 1/2 quarters for the calf. She is a good momma and a good house cow:) Though she was highly offended that I would come at her with the camera at this angle...

Violet is looking great Diana! Sheril and I are happy that she has such a nice home and she's producing so well for both you and Kobe. By the way, we have Kobe's steer registration, but there isn't much point in spending $15 to transfer it, so we'll hang on to it and get it to you when Vanessa is ready to wean her calf and you're ready for Vanessa. Sheril will get some photos of our new calf out of Mike and Matilda (Micah) to you soon as well.

Diana, they are the sort of teats I like for hand milking. Very nice.

Boy that is a beautiful udder on that cow....Just a little too much milk for me though....I wish all Dexters had as good of an udder as this cow!

Just for the record so you understand what's happened to this thread. If you are a newer viewer and don't know the background, the thread doesn't have any continuity. You will see there are huge gaps in information, and references to posts no longer here. Gene Bowen started this thread, showing photos of what he called 'dual purpose' udders. Poor attachment, low yield. Others responded with their own photos. Gene became quite offensive, and finally Olga had to step in. Gene retaliated by demanding all his posts be deleted.

It would be good to start a new thread on Dexter udders, to see the Dexter cows that people are breeding with now. I know that we have improved udders in our herd considerably over the past 10 years.

Hi gang, I'd love to see a renewal of this thread. It's an area where I'd like to think we have made some improvements. Old Calum has some chops when it comes to dual-purpose traits, but it will be another year or two before I'll have photographic evidence . One year of all bull calves in a small herd can make you crazy.

Hi Dave, It's really a shame all the pictures are gone. There were some beautiful udders and some that were not so beautiful. I've been lazy when it comes to taking any pictures. Guess I'm going to have to dust off the old camera or start leaning to take pictures with my cell phone.
