Good luck to you.....I found a nice cow (with new calf) this summer within 150 miles of me. It can be done....but yes, I went to see her twice and milked her once. I felt It was important, as her and I will (hopefully!) have a long relationship. Check out the membership list for ADCA and PDCA like Genebo said, thats how I found mine. Good luck, and have fun hunting!

You may want to get in touch with Wilda Dilts at (505) 861-5853. She has a nice small herd of Dexter cows that she milks. Wilda is near Belen, New Mexico, about a 6-hour drive from Campo, Colorado.

Wow thanks Folks , This is a lot of help! My problem is limited funds and the fact I just cant leave my farm for long 11 horses to look after and Hubby isn't well. If anyone can add email address or Refer me to someone that doesn't want an arm and a leg for a family cow That would help also I will follow your advice as best I can and appreciate any feed back you can give me. This is the first forum I have connected with that have been so help-full. I have been looking for a cow for 8 months now but they have been either too wild or to costly .. I'm near giving up !

Don't give up if u r just wanting a cow to milk in your price rang u can get a dexter mix a lot cheaper. My first dexter was 3/4 dexter and 1/4 zebu. She was bred to a dexter bull and she only cost me 300. She is very gentel and I still milk her. She only gives about a gallon and a half a day but that's enough for my family. I just butcher her calves or sell the helfers for family milk cows.
