I also think the green growth and the alfalfa is a likely cause of the problem. If you can just give them regular hay for a few days it may clear up very quickly.

Marg--thanks for the great suggestion--I will try it.
Rezz--I did have our hay analyzed and the adjusted CP was 6.9%. I have some wheat straw I am putting out for bedding so they pick at that a little already.

Update for anyone still following this....I pulled the alfalfa hay and the new loose mineral I had started, put out my fescue hay, and Frank is nowhere near as loose. He is even started to gain a little of what he lost. Marg--I also gave him some yogurt for good measure. Thanks again for the ideas.
