Gusty must've had him sometime after 5 p.m. At around 7 p.m. I found him at her feet, licked dry and very sleepy. His tummy was bulging so much, he looked like a fat tick. He had most of one of the back quarters, so plenty of colostrum then. Gusty looked uncomfortably full. Her front quarters were bulging like crazy. They must've doubled in size since I saw her this morning!

Congratulations Olga,
Of course we want to see pictures, and hear about your milking adventures.

That's a great video! I can't wait until we have some little calves kicking around our farm too.

Milked out almost 3/4 gallon of colostrum this morning. Gusty moved about some - she wanted to keep her eyes on the bouncing baby. She tryed to brush my hand off the udder now and then, but without anger or intent to hurt. She gave me a couple of very puzzled looks, as in "What are you doing down there?!"

I just might have to break down and buy a video camera, after that.
Got to love those newborn babies who are just finding out they have legs. Momma moos are great also.

Actually, I use my digital camera to take these videos. It has a function to make a mini-movie - up to 1 min long. All it is is a succession of pictures - that's why the quality isn't that great. But on the other hand, it's perfect for on-the-go and need-it-right-now videos.

Olga until you mentioned that you digital camera took that mini-movie I had no idea of their capabilities. We just bought a new camera, had to ask hubby if ours would do something like that, he said yes. Now, all I have to do is read the big instruction book, I haven't even taken a regular picture with it yet.

Gusty's udder was so engorged this morning again, but she didn't let down for me. I only got about a pint off the right side and fed it to the cats. Looks like her milk is coming in - it was a lot whiter today. I'm thinking about borrowing M-Ali back, or a calf from the dairy. This little guy isn't keeping up with the production and the udder is so full, I'm affraid of mastitis.

We finally got to weigh the little guy, whom we named Grover, today, at 9 days old. He was 45 lbs. Which puts him a little over 30 lbs at birth, right?
