When I was purchasing my cattle, I had the owner do a PHA test on OZ. He sent me the NEG results in a copy/paste format from his phone. I DON'T have a formal copy, and he has fallen off the map and is not replying. As I suspected, he probably has larger problems to tend to and his civility will lapse where I am concerned.
I have paperwork on the Bull....registration with PDCA. I was planning on a transfer to ADCA rather than change of owner with PDCA......SO.....Is there any process by which I could access a more formal copy of the test?? The test was done at UC Davis

Mike,
The test was submitted through the Legacy Testing services and the results belong to the owner of the cow at the time who paid for the test. The ownership of the results can be transferred with the original's owner's permission. If you wish to genotype through Legacy ( results can be transferred to any other lab - and UCD reports on more markers which gives the other labs more info for comparison if needed), send an email to legacydatabase@aol.com for more information and help with that.

Thanks Judy....I forwarded your post to the previous owner. If he contacts you, please facilitate the transfer of the test to us. I will provide our details if/when necessary.
I have a few questions to ask about testing, but we do need to get started on the bull and oldest cow. I will figure out what is necessary as we go along, but I do want to bunch as many together as is possible. Chondro/PHA/A2 and get the bull's genotype recorded.
Anyway....thanks for the info. Looked you up on the map. I was born in Hagerstown and lived in Smithburg. Stayed many nights at the old "Shipways"off of Rt 40 when we would deer hunt. I miss the mountain laurel. None here in Arkansas, and not many Beech trees or Tulip Poplars. It looks a lot like Western Maryland though.

Judy, the prior owner....Andrew Campbell, just sent you an email authorizing the transfer of the test results. Let us know if that is sufficient.

Mike, All done!
Here is some general information regarding the Legacy services.
Lots of time and thought was expended to try and design the most expedient process possible for Dexter owners. Frankly, I am really pleased with the results. Every now and then Murphy waves his crooked cane and a case gets bogged down - but for the most part I don't think there is a better system anywhere for Dexter owners and the prices afford the best opportunity for Dexter owners to be as fully informed as they can afford.
It begins with the Legacy services application on the website. The initial form takes a minute or two - but once your information is in the system it will automatically complete after the first time. AND. . . if your Dexter has a LEG number you only have to enter that number and all the information automatically fills.
Once the form is complete and submitted you receive a fully completed test form by return email. You just attach the tail hairs and mail to the lab.
Once the test is received at the lab Legacy receives notice and will send an email to you to let you know it's arrived. you can expect somewhere in this range for time;
DNA ( usually around 5 days - sometimes up to 7. Parentage will sometimes hold up the test those extra couple of days. Cost $25.00 Includes registration in the Dexter "Forever" database housed in the UCD computer - the Legacy database - and the online pedigree program where a DNA typed Dexter is highlighted in BOLD PURPLE font. ( Look at those generations filling in and growing - it is a sight to behold and likely a great selling tool for breeders of multiple confirmed generations).
A2 Results average around three days - but can take up to five depending on certain factors. COST $25.00
PHA /Chondro Take the longest - These tests are ran in batches but usually back in 5 days - 7 max. Cost $20.00 each
Color tests - Take about the same time as A2 - but if ordered with PHA or chondro are reported on the same test form and at the same time usually.
Color tests can be batched with chondro - - First test is $20.00 - each additional test is $10.00 So Chondro - Red - Dun is $40.00 total
Once the DNA is reported the Legacy paperwork is processed within 24 hours and an electronic file copy sent via email showing the registration information in the database - and the paper copy mailed within two weeks.
Payment can be made right on the website with PayPal or a check mailed.
Legacy is very pleased with the system and process. It works very well! Everyone using the Legacy system has been very surprised and seemingly pleased with the process as well.

AND with a swipe of the card (Paypal actually) My bull will get his full set of tests from material ALREADY on file from the original PHA test. Great news for those of us $$economically$$ challenged small operators. Get your PHA first, then the others as you can. It looks like a total of $100 +/- to know about all you can concerning your Dexter.... Mildly surprised and VERY grateful for that one......I thought that I was going to have to cut off the end of his tail to get all the tests. ;D

I am having all the tests done on one of my cows and I knew it would take a little longer to get results back. She is our milk cow so I'm hoping she is A2/A2. We had our bull tested first and now we are starting on our cows.
