www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/vetext/INF-BE_cca/INF-BE_cca02/INF-BE_cca0210.htmlwww.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/vetext/INF-DA/INF-DA_WestNile.htmlFor all of us affected with "Chronic Cronkitis" ( The inability to turn off the evening news)....West Nile Virus has been the current nightmare scenario. About 5 years ago, one of my neighbors commented on the number of dead crows that were in his pastures. As I left his house, I saw a 7-9 lb wild turkey staggering along the road oblivious to the traffic. No further info needed....I warned him to vaccinate his horses. We had several horses die locally, and several people infected in the area. WHAT ABOUT CATTLE ?? The above links are reassuring, with the caveat that it could mutate to infect cattle easily, given the right conditions.......like a large poultry population adjacent to a large cattle population. Hmmm ..... Our Carroll County has millions of chickens and turkeys in confinement, and tens of thousands of cattle living in adjacent, litter fertilized, fields. No problem now. Let's hope it stays that way.
