Effective 12-1-2012 Update
The following prices for testing are effective 12-1-2012
( Prices will be honored for tests currently in progress)
DNA Gentotype - $25.00 Includes:
(1) Entry in the Legacy Dexter "Forever" genotype database stored at the Veterinary Genetics Lab - University of California. This database is the same as a registry - a genetic sample of the animal is archived along with ALL the information normally recorded at the time of registration
(2) Entry in the Legacy genotype Registry when registration criteria are met. (3) Entry in the Legacy online pedigree program in PURPLE font which signfies the Dexter has been DNA genotyped.
A2 Beta Casein $20.00
The following tests are $20.00 each if ordered seperate. If more than one test is ordered from one tail hair sample the first test is $20.00, each additional test is $10.00
PHA $20.00
Chondrodysplasia $20.00
Red $20.00
Dun $20.00
UCD developed DNA testing in cattle in the 1950's. If necessary - you can have DNA extracted from meat samples at no additional charge. Other methods of extracting DNA from bone and teeth is considerably higher in price - but also available.
In addition - UCD is currently comparing Dexter cattle with other beef breeds and if the results are satisfactory will be offering a polled test for polled breeders in the near future. More on that later!
Those who use the Legacy system are impressed with the simplicity and expediency of the process. With Legacy you can always expect a little extra!
