Our calf was born 10 days ago...up until 2 days ago I could walk right up to her and love on her, now she runs away . How do I gentle her down? I usually reward animals with food...what will work on the calf?

Some are a little more protective after they have a calf. The best thing to do bring a little grain with you let her come to you .I train all my cows to eat from my hand .That way all I have to do is walk out and hold out my hand and they come running.Patience is key.

Sorry posted that before reading it all .Squat near the momma fed her and pet the momma the calf will soon investigate. The only problem is the momma will usually take the grain from the calf.If you have a corral lead them in the calf will follow the confined area will provide more interaction and speed up the process of getting to know you.

yep thats right most go through that stage. I found it works best not to push them. they usually start taming down around 4 months but some take longer. I try to spend a lot of time with them that first week makes there scary stage less.

Thanks. Glad to know this is normal...I can wait 4 months . Her moma and I are best buds so I'm sure she'll come around. I did spend a lot of time with her the first week, every time I went out I rubbed her belly and all over.
