We came out to the stall this afternoon and one of our red cows had a new little dun bull calf in the stall with her. I would have thought for sure that bred to Mike (dun), she would have had a black calf.
What are the odds? And what might we find when we test for color?

primary color locus: one black gene, one red one TYRP1 locus: two brown genes

Your red cow: Red/Red: and either a carrier of one copy of dun - or carrier of two copies of dun. (Because she is red - you wont know if she has one copy or two dun copies until you have her TYRP1 tested) We have a black bull (carrier of true red and dun) due for his first calf to a dun heifer who is also a true red carrier. Playing lotto isnt this much fun
